| Description | 1-O-Hexadecyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, commonly known as platelet-activating factor precursor (PAF analog), is an ether-linked phosphatidylcholine with a saturated hexadecyl chain at the sn-1 position and a free hydroxyl at sn-2, giving it enhanced chemical and oxidative stability. The ether linkage prevents hydrolysis and promotes tight packing within bilayers while maintaining membrane fluidity. This lipid serves as a biochemical intermediate and as a reference compound in studies of ether lipid biosynthesis and signal transduction. 1-O-Hexadecyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is also used in biophysical investigations of membrane resistance to oxidation and enzymatic degradation, making it a vital model for ether lipid function and stability in both synthetic and biological systems. |
