(γ)PGA-PEG-(γ)PGA is a linear amphiphilic triblock copolymer, which contains a carboxyl group at both ends of the molecular chain. Poly-γ-glutamic acid (γ-PGA) is a high molecular biopolymer composed of glutamic acid repeating units with gamma-amide linkages. The γ-PGA is biodegradable, edible, water-soluble and non-toxic to humans and environment. The hydrophobic part of γ-PGA has a free -COOH side group. It can self-assemble into micelles or form hydrogels for drug delivery. (γ)PGA-PEG-(γ)PGA is a white powder or viscous liquid which depends on its molecular weight. The bigger the molecular weight, the more likely it is to be a solid. It is soluble in most organic vehicle (such as methylene chloride) and water.
