Pyrene-PEG-Biotin is a fluorescent heterofunctional PEG derivative with a pyrene and a biotin at each end of the molecular chain. Pyrene is a commonly used fluorescent probe and the light emitted by it is influenced by the polarity of the solution. Biotin offers the option to bind to streptavidin (SAV) or avidin. At the same time, biotin can be easily detected. The PEG linker between pyrene and biotin provides better water solubility, less steric hindrance and higher stability. Heterofunctional PEGs can be attached to different molecules or materials, extending the richness of different molecular combinations. It can also be used for cell culture, drug research, drug delivery and release, nanotechnology and new materials.
