Pyrene-PEG-NHS Ester, with a pyrene and an NHS ester at each end of the molecular chain, is a fluorescent heterofunctional PEG derivative. It can label proteins, antibodies, peptides, nucleic acids or particles. Pyrene is a unique fluorescent dye with an exceptionally long excited state lifetime (>100 ns). The long excited state lifetime of this dye allows it to be used in time-resolved fluorescent immunoassays to detect oxygen in cells and lipid vesicles. Pyrene-PEG-NHS Ester reacts readily with amine groups at pH 7.5 to 10.0 to form stable amide bonds. The reaction between NHS and amine groups allows easy and quick conjugation of pyrene to proteins, antibodies and many other biomolecules. The PEG linker between pyrene and NHS groups has better water solubility, less steric hindrance and higher stability.
