SG-PEG-SG is a bifunctional cross-linked PEG reagent with succinimide ester at both ends of the molecular chain, which is a kind of NHS-PEG-NHS ester reagent. It is generally biocompatible, non-toxic and stable in both organic and aqueous solutions, and so are extensively used in biological applications, as well as nanotechnology and materials research. By reacting with drugs, it changes the dispersity and solubility of drug molecules in aqueous solutions. Also, it can create a spatial barrier around the drug, reduce the enzymatic hydrolysis of the drug, avoid the rapid elimination of kidney, metabolism, and allow the drug to be recognized by cells of the immune system.
