HS-PEG-COOH is a linear heterofunctional PEGylation reagent with thiol and carboxyl groups at the two ends of the molecular chain, respectively. It is a useful cross-linking or bioconjugation reagent with PEG spacers. The thiol can selectively react with maleimide, OPSS, vinyl sulfone and transition metal surfaces including gold and silver. The carboxyl group at the end of the PEG block is used to prepare nanoparticles and micelles for targeted drug delivery. PEGylation can increase solubility and stability and reduce immunogenicity of peptides and proteins. It can also suppress the non-specific binding of charged molecules to the modified surfaces.
