mPEG-Vinylsulfone (VS) is a linear monofunctional PEG reagent with a thiol reactive vinylsulfone group. MPEG-VS have multiple reactive groups that can be used to modify proteins, peptides and other materials via their functional groups. PEGylation can increase solubility and stability and reduce immunogenicity of peptides and proteins. It can also suppress the non-specific binding of charged molecules to the modified surfaces. VS selectively reacts with free thiol, SH, sulfhydryl or mercapto groups for site specific PEGylation of peptide and proteins. At room temperature, the VS group easily reacts with free sulfhydryl groups in an aqueous buffer with a pH of 6.5 to 8.5. MPEG-VS is commonly used in the field of biological macromolecules.
