HO-PEG-NHS is a linear heterobifunctional PEG derivative with one hydroxyl group and one NHS ester, which is a useful crosslinking reagent with a PEG spacer. There is a methylene (CH2) linkage between PEG and the succinimidyl carboxylate. NHS is a good leaving group and can react with the amine containing part. NHS esters react with deprotonated primary amines, and the reaction requires neutral to basic pH values to proceed. HO-PEG-NHS can be easily incorporated into liposomes and other nanoparticles through the NHS-amine reaction.
