mPEG-Tresyl is a linear polyethylene glycol modifier, which reduces renal clearance and limits toxicity by increasing water solubility. Meanwhile, mPEG-Tresyl is benefical to improve the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. The low molecular weight mPEG with tresylate will nucleophilic attack on the fluorine produced by the degraded sulfonamide. When MPEG-Tresyl is cross-linked with proteins, no other active groups are introduced, and the secondary amines formed are also very stable. What's more, the reaction conditions are quite mild, and the modification of Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) can keep the latter active. Right now It has been widely used in the modification of adenovirus.
