NH2-PEG-COOH has an amino group and a carboxyl group at each end of the molecular chain, and is a linear heterofunctional PEG reagent. It is a useful cross-linking reagent with PEG spacer. It is usually sold in its hydrochloric acid or TFA salt form. Primary amines are prone to react with NHS esters, carboxylic acids and many other functional groups. The active group at the end of the product can link some modified peptides, proteins, sugars, folic acid or antibodies, etc., so that it has an active targeting effect. PEGylation can increase solubility and stability and reduce immunogenicity of peptides and proteins. It can also suppress the non-specific binding of charged molecules to the modified surfaces.
