mPEG-DSPE (1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine) is a PEGylated derivative of distearoylphosphatidylethanolamine. The end of polyethylene glycol is capped with a methoxy group. It also has phospholipids. The amphiphilic nature of PEG and the hydrophilic polymer properties of PEG have developed rapidly in recent years in the application of drug carriers such as long circulating liposomes, polymer micelles, and long circulating nanoparticles. According to the different molecular weight of PEG, there are MPEG750-DSPE, MPEG2000-DSPE, and MPEG5000-DSPE. Among them, MPEG2000-DSPE is more commonly used and is called "Petified Phosphatidylethanolamine". MPEG-DSPE liposomes form high-quality materials, which can be used for drug delivery, gene transfection and vaccine delivery. Pegylated phospholipids can significantly improve blood circulation time and stabilize encapsulated drugs. Materials such as antibodies, polypeptides and liposomes can also be used for targeted drug delivery by modifying the target surface ligands. It is soluble in DCM, CHCl3 and warm water.
