FITC-PEG-COOH has a fluorescein dye and a carboxyl group at the ends of its molecular chain and is one of the fluorescently labelled PEG derivatives. FITC, often referred to as fluorescein, is a biologically common fluorescent tracer used to stain cells, tissues, biomarkers, or nanoparticles. It has peak absorption or excitation at 494 nm and maximum emission at 521 nm. The FITC group can be easily traced from its yellow colour and green fluorescence. The carboxyl group can easily form a stable amide bond with the amino group. The presence of carboxyl groups on the molecular chain allows FITC-PEG-COOH to bond easily to other molecules or material surfaces.
