mPEG-PLGA consists of hydrophilic block polyethylene glycol (PEG) and hydrophobic block poly-lactide-glycol copolymer. It is one of the most commonly used biodegradable amphiphilic block copolymers (ABCs) for drug delivery. PEG is the hydrophilic part and PLGA is the hydrophobic part. Amphiphilic block copolymer (AMBC) consists of two chemically different homopolymer blocks. One block is hydrophilic and the other hydrophobic. These macromolecules have the property of self-assembling micelles when dissolved in water. mPEG-PLGA has good biocompatibility and is non-toxic. It can be used as drug-loaded microspheres, vesicles, microcapsules and micelles for the sustained and controlled release of drugs.
