The two ends of HS-PEG-AA molecular chain are carboxyl group and sulfhydryl group, respectively. It can be used to modify proteins, peptides, and other materials or small molecules. Sulfhydryl (-SH) and maleimide easily form stable thioether bonds at pH6.5~7.5. The thiol group has a high affinity for the surface of gold and is widely used in the modification of gold nanoparticles or gold films. The carboxyl group (-COOH) can easily form a stable amide bond with the amino group, and can also form an ester bond with the hydroxyl group. PEG modification can improve the solubility and stability, and reduce the immunogenicity of opal matter and peptide. It also inhibits nonspecific binding of charged molecules on the modified surface.
