Tosylate-PEG-Tosylate is a linear bifunctional PEG reagent with toluene sulfonyl groups on both sides of the molecular chain. Toluene sulfonyl group is a good leaving group for neutrophilic substitution reaction. It reacts readily with amine groups at pH 8.0 to 9.5 and can be used to modify proteins, peptides, or any other surface with available amino groups. By reacting with drugs, it changes the dispersity and solubility of drug molecules in aqueous solutions. Also, it can create a spatial barrier around the drug, reduce the enzymatic hydrolysis of the drug, avoid the rapid elimination of kidney, metabolism, and allow the drug to be recognized by cells of the immune system.
