FITC-PEG-MAL is a linear heterobiofunctional PEG reagent with a fluorescein dye and a thiol-reactive maleimide group at each end of the molecular chain. FITC, often referred to as fluorescein, is a biologically common fluorescent tracer used to stain cells, tissues, biomarkers, or nanoparticles. It has peak absorption or excitation at 494 nm and maximum emission at 521 nm. The FITC group can be easily traced from its yellow colour and green fluorescence. At neutral pH, maleimide can react quickly with sulfhydryl/sulfhydryl groups to form stable sulfide bonds. The presence of maleimide groups in the molecular chain allows FITC-PEG-MAL to bind easily to other molecules or materials.
