Fmoc-NH-PEG-NHS is a heterofunctional PEG derivative with a free NHS group and an amine protected by Fmoc at both ends of the molecular chain. Free NHS groups can react with amines, and protected amines can be regenerated under weakly acidic conditions. NHS is a good leaving group and can work with the amine part. Fmoc-NH-PEG-NHS can be easily incorporated into liposomes and other nanoparticles by NHS-amine reactions. A heterobifunctional PEG derivative that can be used to modify proteins, peptides, and other materials by amino or other acid-reactive chemical groups. Polyethylene glycolation increases solubility and stability and reduces the immunogenicity of peptides and proteins. It also inhibits nonspecific binding of charged molecules to the modified surface.
