DSPE-PEG-NHS is a linear heterobifunctional PEG reagent with DSPE phospholipids and active ester groups at both ends of the molecular chain. It is a useful self-assembled reagent for the preparation of PEGylated liposomes or micelles, and also provides the NHS group for conjugation with amine containing parts or ligands. Polyethylene glycolation of phospholipids significantly improved the circulation time and the stability of encapsulated drugs. NHS-PEG-DSPE can be easily incorporated into liposomes and other nanoparticles through the NHS-amine reaction. DSPE-PEG-NHS is one of the most commonly used reactive phospholipids for coupling antibodies, proteins, peptides or other substrates to the surface of liposomes and other lipid PEG nanoparticles.
