Synonyms: Eight-Arm polyethylene glycol-SG; Eight-Arm PEG-SG; Eight-Arm polyethylene glycol-Succinimidyl Glutarate ester
8-Arm PEG-SG has a succinimide NHS active ester group at each end of the eight arms attached to a glycerol and is a multi-arm PEG derivative. A C3 hydrocarbon ester bond exists between PEG and NHS esters. NHS is a good leaving group and can react with the amine containing part. The cleavable ester ligation group between PEG and NHS esters achieves the function of "degradable" hydrogels. 8-Arm PEG-SG has branching or comb-like structures and is commonly used in drug delivery systems. The molecular weight of the modified drug increases and is not easily eliminated by metabolism in the body.
