Synonyms: Eight-Arm polyethylene glycol-SS; Eight-Arm PEG-SS; Eight-Arm polyethylene glycol-succinimidyl succinate
8-Arm PEG-SS has a succinimide NHS active ester group at each end of the eight arms attached to a glycerol and is a multi-arm PEG derivative. There is a C2 ester bond between PEG and NHS esters. NHS is a good leaving group and can react with the amine containing part. It can form PEG hydrogels. PEG hydrogels have a variety of applications in medical devices and regenerative medicine, especially for controlled release drugs, 2D and 3D cell cultures, and wound sealing and healing. 8- Arm PEG-Norbornene has branching or comb-like structures and is commonly used in drug delivery systems.
